What do I need to bring for a yoga class?

You should bring a mat, water, and a towel. If you have any props, such as blocks or straps, you are encouraged to bring those also, as not all our facilities provide those. Most of our classes are "drop-in" and "pay-as-you-go", so please bring cash or a check made payable to Charlotte Fitness.

I'm not flexible. Why should I try yoga?

This is a common concern. If you're new to yoga, you shouldn't expect to be very flexible; however, some people are lucky enough to be born with natural flexibility, and that's OK too. As with any exercise program, it will take time to see results. Luckily, yoga has many benefits such as stress reduction, improved sleep, lower blood pressure, more flexibility, increased strength, greater range of motion, stronger core, enhanced mood, and much more.

Where do we meet for the personal training sessions, and what should I bring?

We will meet at a public location of your choosing - a park, neighborhood clubhouse, local gym*. Please bring water and a towel. If you have any specific equipment you'd like to train with, please notify your trainer in advance and bring that with you.
We also have a partnership with a facility in Matthews, Gunn's Fitness, where we often conduct our training sessions.
*Approval from a gym is needed for us to train clients at their facilities. The client is responsible for getting this written authorization in advance.

What should I expect during a personal training session?

Most personal training sessions will consist of 20-30 minutes of cardio or interval work and 20-30 minutes of strength training. Because we're not usually training in a traditional gym setting with lots of equipment, we'll use body resistance, bands, stability balls, BOSU, and portable items such as those. If we're at a park with playground equipment, you may even find yourself hanging from the monkey bars. Each session is unique to every client. Expect to have fun and break a sweat.

What if I've never worked out before?

Many of our clients have not worked out before. This is an area we specialize in. We want to work with you to set realistic goals and achieve them. We want to help you overcome any fears you have about working out. While we have clients we may work with for extended periods of time, we love to work with clients for a few months and then send them off on their own once they've mastered the basics of a workout program. Think you'll need the continued motivation and accountability of having a trainer? We will stick with you as long as you need us. It's all about you.

What is the initial consultation appointment, and why is it required?

The initial consultation appointment is required for all Personal Training and Strength+Yoga Fusion clients. These exercise programs are more intense and strenuous, and therefore, require a discussion about your current fitness level, relevant medical history, injuries, and goals before we jump into your workouts. This will help ensure your workouts are safe and your trainer designs a program that is personal to you. Required forms will be sent to you in advance of this appointment so we can spend the 90-minute session talking about you, not filling out the forms. A fitness assessment will be conducted and we'll take measurements. This session is charged at the same rate as a 50-minute session.

What is Thai Yoga?

Thai yoga is both energizing and relaxing. The instructor will lead you in a series of yoga-like poses and stretches on a padded mat on the floor. The student is fully-clothed, and no creams or oils are used. The yoga instructor may use her hands, fingers, elbows, legs, knees and feet during the session. Each session is typically 90-minutes long. It can be described as passive yoga or an active massage.

What do I wear to my session?

For yoga sessions, comfortable, form-fitting clothes are the best. You need to be able to move your arms & legs freely without worrying about your shirt or shorts getting in the way. For personal training, you should wear something that's comfortable, that you can workout in, and that you can sweat in. For Thai yoga, please wear long pants and long sleeves. This makes it easier to provide the hands-on work that is used during this session.

How long are sessions?

Yoga classes are usually 60-minutes. Personal training and Strength+Yoga Fusion are 60-minutes. Thai yoga is 90 minutes. The initial consultation required for all personal training & fusion clients is 90-minutes.

How much are sessions?

Our rates vary depending on the type of session, client's needs, travel distance, and promotional packages. Our rates are competitive. Please contact us for all the details and current rates.

What forms of payment do you accept?

For public yoga classes, payment needs to be given to the instructor before class begins (cash or check made payable to Charlotte Fitness). For all other private and semi-private sessions, cash or check is accepted. We can also bill you in advance using PayPal, allowing you to pay by credit card. Payment for individual sessions is due before we begin each session. If you've bought a 5, 10, or 20-session pass, those are pre-paid in advance. Ask us about discounts for passes!

Are you certified, and why should I care?

Yes! We are certified. Yes! You should care. Certification means your instructor or trainer has met certain standards set forth by the industry to safely and effectively conduct your session. We believe you should never hire a trainer who isn't certified with a reputable agency. We are certified with American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT); with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200); and with Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in Primary Group Exercise and Kickboxing. We have completed Level 1 (Essentials & Fundamentals) training for Thai Yoga, provided by deonThai Method. Being certified means we're required to earn Continuing Education Credits during the year to increase our knowledge and stay on top of current trends. We also hold current CPR certifications.
